ESG is becoming the new standard of excellence for business. It’s the term used to describe a company that has moved beyond regulatory compliance and is taking a broad view of risks and opportunities, including EHS, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, corporate governance, and aspects of social sustainability, including psychological safety. Businesses pursuing ESG maturity will have competitive advantages in securing investments, building better relationships with supply chain partners, and earning the confidence of customers. In fact, ESG is no longer just a “nice to have” in today’s marketplace – it’s a “must have.”
If you’re an EHS professional or business leader expected to develop or lead strategic approaches to ESG, watch the on-demand sessions from our virtual ESG conference. How Total Worker Health Initiatives Impact Corporate Sustainability Metrics
Presenter: Blake McGowan, CPE, Director of Research, VelocityEHS
Moderator: Arielle West, Solutions Strategist, VelocityEHS
Recently, the International Labour Organization (ILO) added a new principle to the Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work. This landmark decision means that all governments, employers’ and workers’ organizations of ILO Member States commit to promoting a safe and healthy working environment.
This human right aligns seamlessly with the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Total Worker Health® (TWH) initiative, which integrates the protection from work-related safety and health hazards with the promotion of injury and illness-prevention efforts to advance worker well-being.
It also supports the new ISO 45003 standard, which recognizes that employers are responsible for protecting both the physical and psychosocial health of their employees. This puts mental health within the scope of environment, health, and safety (EHS) management. Thus, the connection between Total Worker Health and corporate sustainability is the intersection of human capital management and human rights.
After this session, participants will better understand how TWH initiatives:
- align with human rights and human capital management initiatives
- influences the impacts and dependencies on organizations
- impact corporate sustainability metrics
- can be valued or quantified from a financial perspective (i.e., valuation)
