Start Time: 1:45 p.m.
Presenter: Rick Barker, CPE, CSP, Senior Director, Solution Strategy, VelocityEHS
Description: Being an EHS manager today is not easy. One of the biggest challenges is the sense of isolation and uncertainty about how your management practices compare to those of your peers at other organizations. Gaining better access to information on the current state of EHS management can provide the perspective needed to assess and improve your programs.
VelocityEHS recently partnered with EHS Today to survey hundreds of EHS professionals, benchmarking current practices and trends in EHS management. This comprehensive survey covered budget planning, occupational health and safety standards followed or certified by respondents’ organizations, trends in injury and illness rates, and the division of responsibility for EHS and ESG programs. Join this session for an exclusive look at the results. Plus, attendees will receive a copy of the report at the end of the event.
Key Learning Objectives:
- How many organizations are following or certifying to specific standards such as ISO-45001
- Numbers of respondents who self-report following leading metrics and specific metrics tracked
- The percentages of respondents who reported meeting their injury reduction goals

OSHAs HazCom Final Rule: What You Need to Know
Start Time: 7:30 a.m.
Presenter: Nick Stone, Senior Strategic Consultant, VelocityEHS
Description: If you need help getting up to speed on OSHA’s recent changes to its Hazard Communication (HazCom) Standard, this is the presentation for you!
On May 20, 2024 US OSHA published the long-awaited final rule to update its HazCom Standard to align with Revision 7 and aspects of Revision 8 of the UN’s Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS). The rule was six years in the making, and now that we are in the transition period for compliance that brings significant changes to HazCom programs along the supply chain. Major changes include new hazard classes, revised classifications for several categories of existing hazardous chemicals, new requirements for container labeling, and updated requirements for safety data sheets (SDSs) including trade secret claim allowance updates.
US OSHA has estimated that approximately 94% of SDSs and approximately 64% of labels will be affected by the HazCom update—that means these changes will impact everyone throughout the supply chain. You need to be ready for the impact to your organization and take action today to ensure compliance before the transition period ends.
From 2014 to 2023 the HazCom Standard was already OSHA’s second most frequently cited standard nine out of ten years, and the 2024 final rule will create additional compliance challenges. Attend this presentation for the information you need to maintain compliance with OSHA’s updated HazCom standard!
Key learning objectives:
- Background and regulatory activity leading up to these changes
- Major changes brought by the rule, including: the categories of chemicals that are most-affected, new/updated hazard classes and categories, and SDS /Labeling implications
- The timeline for compliance and how you can prepare
- How chemical management software can help you achieve and maintain HazCom compliance
