Reporting to the CIO, the Senior Director, Business Intelligence (SDBI) is a trusted advisor to the executive team and has strong knowledge and tenure in general business experience to organize the flow of priorities quickly and efficiently from the executive stakeholders. The Senior Director, Business Intelligence will lead the Business Intelligence team. The SDBI will lead the development of the company’s business intelligence architecture, including building data pipelines, sources, reports, and dashboards. In addition, they will collaborate with business partners to collect data requirements, implement design ideas, and mature data governance to ensure quality data throughout the data lifecycle. The SBDI will leverage their strong understanding of business processes and key performance indicators to transform data into decision-making tools for senior leaders.
From day one, the Senior Director, Business Intelligence will immediately impact our productivity, streamlining strategic initiatives, overseeing program management, and communicating objectives between departments. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in a business management role, with a special focus on executive-level, interdepartmental collaboration.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
- BI Architecture: lead the BI technical team and drive the end-to-end vision and engineering of business intelligence technical architecture, including advising on technology decisions and buildout of the data warehouse
- Data Modeling: lead the BI technical team applying architecture related to data flows, integration, and storage of data from multiple source systems to create use case specific data models to support analytics
- Dashboard Building: collaborating with business partners to identify use case scope, collect data requirements, implement designs ideas, ensure adoption, and monitor quality and accuracy
- Data Governance: responsible for organizing, structuring and storing data in sustainable method that improves usability, data accuracy, definition, ensures quality through the data lifecycle
- Thought Leadership: Advising “customers” front lines thru execs on the “art of the possible” with data, source system architecture to maximize value of data
- Mentorship: Hire, lead, mentor, and develop strategic thinking, data integration, modelling, and visualization BI team members.
- Manage and execute against prioritized strategic initiatives
- Interacts with the executive team and other functional areas across the organization for the purpose of defining, advancing and assessing the effectiveness of the use of available data for strategic decision making across the organization
- Oversee strategic business initiatives from development through successful execution with little supervision
- Prepare presentations for internal and external audiences including support to the development of the Board of Directors updates
- Assist and communicate with executives in decision-making, program management, and initiative implementation
- Improve current processes and coordinate organizational procedures for optimized efficiency and productivity
- Serve as liaison between staff, executives, senior leaders, CEO, and sponsors regarding project updates, proposals, and planning
- Oversee daily operations through collaboration with executive management and department leaders
- Build and develop relationships with all employees for increased efficiency and effective responsiveness into existing operations, and help to define new operational strategies, working with CEO and executives on special projects
- Serve as a subject matter expert, handling inquiries and developing action plans to address them, and assisting with the preparation and dissemination of communications
- Assisting with and running special projects as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Skills and Qualifications:
- 5 + years of experience in business operations/strategy, management consulting, finance, communications or similar role
- SaaS experience, including recurring revenue models and software
- Highly developed verbal and written communication skills
- Strategic thinker with the ability to lead strategic initiatives
- Strong analytical skills and ability
- Strong financial acumen and budget planning experience
- Nimble business mind with a focus on developing creative solutions
- Strong project reporting skills, with a focus on interdepartmental communication
- Self-starter, quick learner, and ability to multi-task on a regular basis with a positive attitude towards contributing and continual learning
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
- Experience working with senior level executives and board members
- Experience in the EHS sector, including competitive landscape and functional domains
